WESTCHASE  Hillsborough County Public Schools announced KeLinda Lockett as the new principal of Farnell Middle School during its Jan. 11 board meeting.

Lockett’s first official day leading the Westchase school will be Jan. 24, as stated in an email she sent to families with students enrolled at Farnell.

“I am so excited to start this new position and look forward to meeting each of you and your children,” she wrote in the email, adding that she expects to be on campus in the weeks leading up to her first day.

Lockett replaces outgoing principal Tim Binder, who stepped down late last year in relation to disputed allegations of creating a hostile work environment.

Hillsborough Schools Superintendent Addison Davis introduced Lockett during the Jan. 11 board meeting, stating that she comes to Farnell with 22 years of experience as a middle school teacher and administrator.

Lockett joined Hillsborough County Schools in 2006 as a language arts teacher and her last position was as an assistant principal at Adams Middle, located just north of Chamberlain High. Prior to Adams, Lockett served as an instructional leader at Sligh and Wilson middle schools.

“She has a strong knowledge of the structure of academics and she has been a part of our transformational network,” Davis said. “She continues to work with our schools to improve students’ mindsets, to improve student performance and really prepare students to transition from one grade level to the next.

“I will recognize that we had a lot of candidates,” Davis said, “but she was the leading candidate related to encouragement from staff members, community members and students all involved in this process.”

Lockett, who was in attendance at the Jan. 11 board meeting, received applause and took photos with her family and board members.

I am so excited to start this new position and look forward to meeting each of you and your children,” Lockett wrote in her email.
