Carrollwood Day star to play for Gators

Star Carrollwood Day wide receiver Izaiah Williams, seen here at Wiregrass Ranch High in 2021, orally committed to the Florida Gators.

The Florida Gators added another player from the Tampa Bay area May 5, picking up an oral commitment from four-star receiver Izaiah Williams at Carrollwood Day.

Williams started his high school career at Wiregrass Ranch in Wesley Chapel, where he caught 34 passes for 524 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore in 2021. He had only six catches last season at Carrollwood Day but was hampered by an injury.

The 6-foot, 172-pound athlete is the No. 325 overall recruit and the state’s No. 51 prospect in the 247Sports composite. His other offers included Alabama, Florida State, Georgia and Michigan, among others.

Williams finished second at last month’s Class 1A, District 9 track meet in the 100 meters (11.24 seconds) and fourth in the 200 (23.74 seconds).

He’s the second local commit in Florida’s 2024 class after linebacker Adarius Hayes, a four-star prospect at Largo High. With Williams’ commitment, the Gators’ class is up to No. 11 nationally. Seven of UF’s eight commitments are blue-chip prospects, led by five-star quarterback DJ Lagway. Three others are ranked in the top 50.

Oral commitments are non-binding until recruits sign during their senior year.
